A brilliant (and affordable!) club for girls

You know me, I love finding a good deal, especially when it’s something that actually makes a difference for our kids. Between school clubs, hobbies, sports, and activities, it all adds up so fast.

Some of the clubs I’ve looked at lately are £10–£15 a week, and that’s before you even factor in any added extras.

So when I came across Girlguiding, I found out It’s not only super affordable, but it’s also so much more than just an after-school club. Let me tell you more about it…

Girlguiding is the UK's largest youth organisation dedicated to girls, offering a girl-only space for young people aged 4-18 to develop skills, confidence, and leadership through a programme of fun, adventure, and friendship.

Their whole ethos is helping girls know that they can do anything - as a girl mum I absolutely love this!

Sessions start from just a few pounds a week and girls participate in activities like outdoor challenges, creative projects, and community work, earning badges and learning to make a positive impact on the world around them. So for what you get, I honestly think it’s such good value for money.

It’s not just the price that caught my attention.

I’ve been reading some really shocking facts from Girlguiding’s 2025 Girls’ Attitudes Survey about what it’s like growing up as a girl in 2025, and as a girl mum, they hit me really hard.

  • 28% of girls have experienced someone saying something mean about their body

  • 1 in 10 have missed school to avoid sexual harassment

  • 86% have avoided going out when dark to keep themselves safe

  • 56% don’t feel safe on public transport on their own

That’s the reality our girls are growing up in, and it breaks my heart which is why I love that Girlguiding is giving girls the chance to feel safe, supported, and valued, without it costing a fortune.

It’s such a lovely, modern, inclusive space where girls can just be themselves and explore who they are, away from the pressures of school, social media and all the rest.

In Girlguiding, there are so many activities and challenges girls can take part in. They can do things like coding computer games, caring for animals, learning first aid, crafting and being involved in community projects - there’s something for all girls.

And it’s not just for one age group either. They’ve got something for every stage, from Rainbows (ages 4–7), Brownies (7-10), Guides (10-14) and Rangers (14-18). There’s also loads of flexibility. There are endless chances for optional trips and special activities, with help available if cost is a worry. It’s just such a breath of fresh air to find something that’s both affordable and empowering. I honestly wish I’d gone to a group like this when growing up.

Have your kids ever tried Girlguiding? Or were you part of it yourself back in the day?
