Eurocamp Review: Esterel

Welcome to my Eurocamp review series! As you’ll have seen in my Ultimate Guide to a Eurocamp holiday blog, you’ll know that Eurocamps have become our favourite type of budget holiday.

So, to kick-off this series, I’m going to give you the lowdown on one of our favourites - Esterel, a five-star Eurocamp site on the French Riviera which we travelled to in mid-May 2024.

The beautiful beaches of the French Riviera didn't disappoint

I didn’t realise this when we booked but Esterel was the first 5-star parc on the French Riviera - and it’s easy to see why! But if I had to choose my favourite things about the site, they’d be:

  • The location in South of France - absolutely idyllic

  • The kids loved the indoor jungle-themed pool and all the waterslides

  • There’s an on-site spa if you need some childfree relaxation

  •  €6 for a load of laundry! Bargain!

We flew from Birmingham into Nice airport and hired a car which we booked at the airport and it cost us around £30 a day. It’s under an hour’s journey from the airport to the parc and a pretty nice drive. I spoke before about why I love having a car on holiday but if you’re a nervous driver or simply don’t want to drive whilst you’re on holiday, you could arrange  a private transfer from the airport to the Eurocamp.

The accommodation was modern and spacious

There are lots of accommodation types to choose from at Esterel to suit all budgets. As with all Eurocamps, you’ll be self-catering so you'll have a kitchen to be able to cook in, a living area, bathroom and however many bedrooms you’ve chosen. We’ve stayed in lots of different types of accommodation from the more basic right up to the beautiful lodges and I would say you get what you pay for.

This time we opted for a brand new lodge in their Comfort XL range and it was absolutely stunning! It had 3 bedrooms (sleeps up to 6) and had a decent size kitchen, separate rooms for the kids (with blackout blinds!!) and a lovely powerful warm shower. This cost us £135.22 for 3 nights and was well-worth the money.

  • Things we liked - the accommodation was modern and spacious. The extra bedroom was a godsend!

  • Things to be aware of - Unless you want to bring your own bedding and towels, you’ll need to be prepared to pay for them as they’re not included. The bed linen and towel bundle is just over £77

We ate at the on-site restaurant which was probably one of the nicest I’ve seen at a Eurocamp. The interior was really modern and  there was a bar area and snack bar which served things like pizza, sandwiches and salads. We had two adult meals and two kids meals with soft drinks and puddings which cost €104.

There is a well-stocked supermarket on-site too but it’s not open all day which was a bit annoying at times. So we often headed out to the local supermarkets which were all within a 5-10 minute drive of the Camp and were usually better value for more which I am all about!

  • Things we liked - the restaurant was very welcoming of children and catered for them with a varied children’s menu and colouring packs.

  • Things to be aware of - the ice creams on-site are VERY expensive so I would definitely recommend stocking up at the local supermarkets instead. As is usually the case, the food and drink on-site is quite pricey but you do have full kitchen facilities so you can pick and choose how much you want to eat out.

The pools were heated!

Esterel has some of the best quality pools I’ve ever seen! There are two heated (yes, actually warm!) lagoon pools with palm trees dotted around which are absolutely spectacular and there’s a whole range of water slides that will keep the whole family entertained for hours. The kids absolutely loved the jungle-themed indoor children’s pool and there’s even a splash park!

Within the pool complex, you'll also find a tropical beach with white sand from the Seychelles! Heaven!

  • Things we liked - we loved that two of the pools were heated! It meant we could enjoy full use of them even if the weather was iffy. There was a fab choice of waterslides and the space was immaculately clean with plenty of available sunbeds.

  • Things to be aware of - some of the water slides are quite scary! Fine if you’re a thrillseeker but I’m not so I wasn’t keen! I also thought that there could have been a better lifeguard presence so that’s something to be mindful of if you’re not a confident swimmer (to caveat: this may have been because we went out of season).

The kids were spoilt for choice! Not only did they have their old pool which provided hours of fun, there’s also something called a Baby Club on site which has a park and some wooden huts full of toys! My kids stayed in here for hours!

The site runs its own series of kids clubs for all ages and also discos for teenagers.

There’s also a jam-packed schedule that’s put on by the parcs animation team so if it’s your thing, during the day you can take part in activities such as aqua aerobics and bingo, and in the evening there are shows, karaoke and themed nights.

  • Things we liked - the Baby Club was a firm favourite for my kids. Lots of outdoor activities, crazy golf, badminton courts to keep them entertained.

  • Things to be aware of - one thing to mention is that there is a reduced range of activities out of season.

We were really impressed with the facilities and amenities Esterel had to offer including a mini supermarket, gift shop, bar, restaurant and takeaway all on site.

  • Spa - there is an on-site spa which is ideal for a little pampering. They offer massages, facials and other treatments. I treated myself to a 60 minute massage which was €80 and I thought it was exceptional value for money - very much needed when holidaying with young children!

  • Laundry - call me mad but I actually don't mind doing laundry when I'm away so you have less, (if any!) to do when you get home - parenting hack 101! The laundry facilities here were great and a load of washing only cost €6!

  • Things we liked - the huge outdoor park was definitely welcome to keep the kids occupied.

  • Things to be aware of - again, there’s a reduced activity schedule out of season. Also, from an accessibility perspective, the site is quite hilly and some pitches are situated on the hill. It’s worth speaking to Eurocamp when you book if you need a pitch that’s lower down.

Before I discovered Eurocamp, I had no idea you could holiday in the South of France on a budget - but you absolutely can! The campsite is set in the most stunning area on the French Riviera with plenty to do off-site.

Close to the site is the town of St Raphäel which has a lot of historical attractions - many of which are free! There is also Aqualand water park and Parc Zoologique which are both in Fréjus, providing fun for all the family if you wanted to venture out of the parc for the day.

Absolutely! I would definitely recommend this site to those wanting to explore the South of France, whether you have children or not. It is the perfect position to explore some of the nearby beauty towns such as Cannes, St. Tropez and Nice and ideal for exploring the beautiful beaches that the South of France has to offer. I could rave about the facilities all day long because they are some of the best I’ve seen at Eurocamp and accommodation was top notch.
