How to host a cheap but fun Halloween night for kids
Halloween doesn’t have to mean spending a fortune on decorations, costumes, and treats. With a bit of creativity and some recycled materials, you can host a fun, spooky, and affordable Halloween night that the kids will absolutely love.
Decor that won’t break the bank
Paper chains - grab some coloured paper or even old magazines and make chains for the ceilings and around the room. This keeps the kids busy for ages!
Haunted corners - hang white sheets from doorways or windows to create that ghostly effect, and it’s using stuff you already have sat in the cupboard!
Go to a more affordable supermarket as they have pumpkins for less than £1!
Spooky food that the kids will love
Turn regular food into halloween-themed treats without spending a fortune.
Mummy hot dogs - wrap sausages in puff pastry leaving gaps for eyes that you can make with mustard or cheese!
Monster sandwiches - use cookie cutters to make spooky shapes and use cheese or veggies if you want to give them a face!
Eyeball pasta - now this is a right showstopper that’s so simple to create. Use pasta, meatballs and a tomato sauce then just add mozzarella balls with olives sliced on top, to create the look of an eyeball and voila!!
Ghost bananas - this is a great one to try and get fruit into the kids by making it fun! Chop a banana in half and just add 2 chocolate chip eyes.
Graveyard pudding cups - this could be anything such as a yoghurt but with crushed biscuits on top to look like mud and a cookie to look like a tombstone.
Pumpkin oranges are another simple, effective and healthy idea. Just poke a small orange with a stick of celery and there’s your pumpkin!
Spider cookies - stick pretzels into the side of a sandwich biscuit and add eyes.

Activities to keep the night alive
A spooky scavenger hunt - hide paper bats, spiders or mini treats around the house.
Story time - read some scary or if you know me (not-so-scary) stories.
Have a dance party - to some classic Halloween tunes.
Hosting a cheap Halloween night can be just as fun (if not more) so honestly try and keep it simple as often the easiest ideas are the spookiest and most effective!
