Meal Planning Monday 14/5/12

It’s that time again, and I am really finding my supermarket shopping is taking on a new edge as I think ahead to the week instead of randomly putting things into the trolley and hoping for the best.

Monday – Somerset pork casserole

Tuesday – Spag Bol

Weds – salmon / fish with bulghar wheat for me and mash for everyone else

Thurs – Chicken wrapped in bacon with chips and potentially bbq sauce

Friday – homemade pizza

How does your garden grow?

plants

I haven’t ventured too far into the greenhouse during this really bad weather but took opportunity today to give it an airing in the sunshine and see what was happening with my potential vegetable emporium.

My potatoes have thrived in this wet weather and are taking over the bottom of the greehouse. My tomatoes are looking slightly sorry for themselves, and a snail ate my peas. I rmeoved him in disgrace this morning but think I may have to plant another couple to catch up with my survivor.

I was pleased to see that one of my pumpkins was [...]

Thinking about Energy Consumption

It started very slowly at first. It was only something to be valued by self-proclaimed tree-huggers and then by celebrities with more time and money on their hands than the average person. But then, the UK government started an effort to cap carbon emissions. And then oil and gas prices skyrocketed. And then the economy collapsed. And then the price of electricity started to rise. And then we all started to pay attention. It would be an overwhelmingly jaded viewpoint to say that the going green trend only started to take hold because we all wanted to save money on [...]

Cheep Cheep!

P1040907

We’ve had this bird house in our garden for a few years now. We haven’t really done anything with it and it’s only been this last winter that hubby placed it nearer the house for 4yo to take an interest in as she wanted to feed the birds.

We have been noticing next doors cat sitting on top of the bird house more frequently and then also some blue tits flying in and out. More recently hubby has heard the faint “cheep cheep” of some baby birds, so we are all on cat watch to scare away next doors [...]

Meal Planning Monday – 7/5/12

meal1

I am really finding the meal planning is working in our house. Being organised in the morning helps when it comes to I can’t be bothered o clock in the afternoon for finding something to rustle up for dinner.

This week I managed to get some great bargains at the supermarket and they will of course be reflected in the meal planning this week.

Monday – slow cooker bolognaise Tuesday – Home made pizza Weds – chicken and basil creamy linguine Thurs – Moroccan Lamb, wild rice and veg / salad Fri – Sheppards Pie Sat – BBq (Indoors [...]

Is Enforced Exercise a good thing?

Hubby’s car has been a bit “iffy” for a while, and we’ve known that day may arrive when it packs up altogether. Never ones to be completely prepared for the unexpected, that day did in fact arrive last week. Poor hubby hadn’t even made it to work yet before he was on the phone to me. Luckily it had decided to cease working close to home and close to a garage, so off it went to stay at the garage Hilton to be fixed.

Somehow by the grace of god the fault that we thought would be the end of [...]

Meal Planning Monday – 30/04/12

meal1

Another week is upon us and here we go with thinking about food for the week again. So far this weekend we haven’t been shopping due to time constrictions, working and only having one car for all of last week. So it’s going to be a bit of a scrabble around for dinners this week, but I’m hoing to get to the shops or at least do an online shop today.

Monday – slow cooker beef casserole (smells yummy already)

Tuesday – Spaghetti Bolognaise

Weds – Salmon / fish with potatoes and green beans

Thurs – homemade pizza

Making a list and checking it twice

SAMSUNG

It feels like I’m always saying “Write a list for Father Christmas”, or “Write a list for Mummy and Daddy” to 4yo. Her birthday is coming up in a few weeks and with the never ending supply of amazing toys shown on the adverts, it’s a parent’s nightmare around the time of their children’s birthdays.

After 4yo decided she wasn’t patient enough to ask me how to spell everything on her list, she decided to attack the toy catalogue and create her own list as a picture instead.

Toy shop anyone?

Celebrating Father’s Day on a budget

Father’s Day is coming around, but your bank account still isn’t. It is a predicament that many families find themselves in after several years of economic pressure. Luckily, you don’t have to break your budget to make dad feel special, and you don’t have to stick to just giving Father’s Day cards, either. Here’s how to create a spectacular holiday for dad this year with very little money.

Do nothing at all. If weekends are usually dad’s time to do outdoor chores, take out the rubbish, or make repairs around the house, there’s probably nothing that he would like more than to [...]
